Methodist Treatment Centre

Located in Meru, Kenya, the Methodist Treatment Centre (MTC) offers substance abusers counseling, detoxification, and follow-up care. Over 3,700 clients have received care since MTC was established.

Led by Catherine Mutua, MTC has six full-time staff members. Future plans for MTC in 2025/26 include the expansion of its men and women’s dormitories, office space, and the opening of an out-patient clinic for patients in the community.

Plans are in place for MTC to host four free medical camps for the communities surrounding Meru, a year. The first one in 2025 took place February 28, where over 400 people received care. A group of 12 Center volunteers participated in the second medical camp which took place on July 12, 2025. Here, the vulnerable and those lacking health coverage received basic health support such as: consultation with physicians, blood work, HIV testing, mental health support, and medicine. Again, over 400 people received care. Plans are in the works for a third camp to take place in September.

The Center for Health and Hope currently pays for the salaries of the director and one counselor, along with some upgrades to the facility, and occasional patient treatment.
