Methodist Treatment Centre

Located in Meru, Kenya, the Methodist Treatment Centre (MTC) offers substance abusers counseling, detoxification, and follow-up care. Over 3,700 clients have received care since MTC was established.
Led by Catherine Mutua, MTC has six full-time staff members. Future plans for MTC include the expansion of its men and women’s dormitories, office space, and the opening of an out-patient clinic for patients in the surrounding community. The Center for Health and Hope covers the annual salary of the Executive Director and one counselor on staff.
An important partnership between the Center and MTC are the medical camps that are provided for free to the community. Plans are in place for MTC and the Center to host four medical camps in 2026 with the first one scheduled for February 18. In 2025, two medical camps took place on February 28 and July 12. A group of 12 Center volunteers participated in the July medical camp. Here, the vulnerable and those lacking health coverage received basic health support such as consultation with physicians, blood work, HIV testing, mental health support, and basic medication. Over 400 people received care at each camp.
